| Frequently Asked Questions
|
|
| How
easy is Pioneer Log Siding to install? |
|
Pioneer
Log Siding is simple to install because there is no over lapping.
Pioneer Log siding, for example when installed on a wall 10’
by 30’ can take up to a day or two including windows and door
openings. For the same size wall real hewn square Logs can take
up to a week or more! |
|
| Are
there cost differences, Pioneer Log Siding versus Square Logs? |
|
Consider
real aged square logs that must be removed from an old cabin or
a barn site. Now consider the time involved, five times the weight,
higher shipping charges, elevated labor cost and installation time;
it works out to be one very expensive project! Pioneer Log
Siding ends up at about one third the cost, easier to install, more
efficient, lighter to ship and with the same look! Pioneer
Log Siding is nearly impossible to tell the difference after chinking
from real square logs. |
|
| What
is the wait time for Pioneer Log Siding to be shipped? |
|
Please
contact Pioneer ASAP for rush projects and we will do our best to
accommodate. We are normally able to ready Pioneer Log Siding within
30-60 days or sooner ready to ship, depending on your order size.
Pioneer Log Siding is a special hand distressing process and
worth the short wait. |
|
| How
do corners come together with Pioneer Log Siding? |
|
Many
old frontier cabins made their logs with half dovetail cuts interlocking
each to the other like Lincoln logs, sometimes weighing up to 200
lbs each or more, and would protrude past the cabin’s corners.
Pioneer Log Siding simply butts your corner trim; it’s
that simple. |
|
| What
is the life expectancy of Pioneer Log Siding? |
|
The
longevity can surpass 100 years, if termite protected and hopefully
no environmental catastrophes. You can stain or paint it as
any other wood; however a very transparent distressed stain would
give it a more authentic Pioneer look. Age and time only adds historic
charm and appearance to Pioneer Log Siding. |
|
| What
is unique about Pioneer Log Siding? |
|
Unlike
other hewn log attempts sold at lumber outlets, we do not machine
mill our planks with repetitive cuts and artificial groves. We
hack-cut, drawknife, saw-edge, ax-tatter and distress the Sam hell
out of them, leaving a more authentic and unique look with no two
the same. |
|
| Can
I blend Pioneer Log Siding with my Contemporary design? |
|
Many
do, your architect under stands blending elements; or maybe you
are a talented designer. Pioneer Log Siding can be used interior
or exterior on most any new or existing home, cabin, modular or
commercial project. When combined with contemporary you have
a winning architectural recipe! |
|
| What
is chinking and do I have to do it on my structure? |
|
Our
settlers used chinking to insulate their cabin structures to fill
in the spaces for weather protection and insects. After your
Pioneer Log Siding is installed, your cabin will also need to be
chinked. You may wish to chink it yourself or hire a sub contractor.
Be sure to use a flexible chinking it last longer and seals
better. Make sure your Spacer Strips are sealed completely. |
|
| Are
there stain options with Pioneer Log Siding? |
|
Yes,
you may wish to consider Pioneer Log Siding pre-stain as a cost
effective plan. Compare your costs by pre-staining versus a subcontractor
or yourself along with ladders, equipment and scaffolding including
two coats. It's a huge job and can get expensive. You may save a
small fortune by having your structure Pre-stained when installed.
However, some people choose to do it themselves and that works,
too. |
